I was adopted when I was in the 1st grade and my teacher, Mrs. Jeannie Islander, made the adjustment so easy for me. She gave me lots of hugs, but she disciplined me too. I remember there were times she took my “tickets” away because I got in trouble! But she always worked with me. When I started in her class, I wasn’t very good at reading, but by the end of the year, I was a star reader. When I graduated high school, Mrs. Islander sent me a letter saying how proud she was of me. Years later when I became a substitute teacher in the district, it was absolutely because of her.
