Kindergartners need to know they’re safe, that I love them, and that they’re in a community where we all care about each other. Every day I greet them at the door with a smile and we shake hands and make eye contact. I connect with them and spend one-on-one time with them until I gain their trust. They have to feel good about learning. They’re going to be in school for such a long time, and if they’re not getting it now, it carries on and it affects their self-esteem.
